Spring SC Presidential Elections

If you are a rising 8th-grader and are interested in running for Student Council President for the 2017-2018 school year, this is the blog post for you! The directions, documents, and videos that follow will provide you with the essential information you will need during the process of running for Student Council President. Questions? Come see Ms. Aitken, Mrs. Morris, or Ms. Mack.

IMPORTANT DATES:

  • Thurs 5/4 – All students interested in running for SC meet in Mrs. Morris’s room during lunch for an informational session (bring non-microwavable lunch) – THIS IS MANDATORY FOR ALL STUDENTS INTERESTED
  • Wed. 5/17 3:30 pm – All paperwork and your VoiceThread must be completed and turned in tMs. Aitken (room 413), Mrs. Morris (room 411), or Ms. Mack (room 209).
  • Fri 5/19-Wed 5/24 – Campaigning (limit 10 posters) – see packet for more information about posters.
  • Mon 5/22-Wed 5/24 – Students meet in TAYLOR HALL to practice during lunch to practice speeches.
  • Wed. 5/24 at 2:40 pm – SPECIAL SCHEDULE – Entire middle school will watch Presidential speeches during an assembly and vote immediately after in advisories before leaving for the school day.
  • Wed. evening 5/24 – The results of the election will be emailed to the candidates.
  • Thursday 5/25 – Election results will be announced during morning announcements.
  • Fri. 5/26 by 12:30 pm – All posters must all be removed.

The red link below will get you to a digital copy of the Presidential Election Packet. Extra printed copies can be picked up from the classrooms of Ms. Aitken (room 413), Mrs. Morris (room 411), and Ms. Mack (room 209). Be sure to READ THE ENTIRE PACKET!

VOICETHREAD

The VoiceThread for the Presidential Election can be found below. This is where you will record your comment about why you would make a good President for Student Council.

VoiceThread Reminders:

  • Press and HOLD the VoiceThread below and select “Open in VoiceThread” to hear Mr. Schafer’s Directions and to add your video comment for your speech.
  • You will need to record a video comment (up to 90 seconds long).
  • If you are proposing any changes or making any promises for next year, you must get the approval of your idea from Ms. Aitken or Mrs. Morris before submitting your recording.
  • There should not be any props, music, extra people, or special effects in your VoiceThread (or in your speech in Taylor Hall).

2017-2018 SC Presidential Election Info Meeting

Attention current 7th graders who are interested in running for Student Council President for next school year: The mandatory information election meeting will be held tomorrow, Thursday, May 4th in Mrs. Morris’s room during lunch AND recess. Please be sure to bring your iPad and a non-microwaveable lunch. If you are unable to attend the meeting but are still interested in running, please see Ms. Mack, Ms. Aitken, or Mrs. Morris as soon as possible.

Food Truck Rodeo – It’s a Wrap

Friday was one of the most fun, exciting, hot and successful days all year! The Spring Food Truck Rodeo was a hit with all fourteen of our food trucks showing up with amazing food and drinks! From Pho Nomenal Dumplings, Napoli Gourmet Pizza, Mama’s Hot Chicken, Lumpy’s Ice Cream, Crepes- Veronique,Will and Pops,  and Fahsyrah’s Lemonade, to Al-Gyros and Phillies, Captain Ponchos, Cocoa Forte, Kona Ice, The Parlour,  Belgian Waffle Crafters, and Dang Good Dogs, there were all different kinds of delicious treats and lots of new things to try. We can’t wait for next year for hopefully another smooth, fun, and delicious Food Truck Rodeo!

End of Year Dance Theme Announcement!

Lights, Camera, Action! The Student Council is happy to announce the theme of the end-of-year dance. The theme is Hollywood! This dressy-casual dance will be held on Friday, May 19th from 7:30-10:00 pm in Taylor Hall. The event is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students.  Join us to walk the red carpet – it will be a night to remember! More information is to come a few weeks before the dance. We hope you will attend! 

What to wear:
Any of the following are appropriate (and remember all school dress code rules apply): 
dress, skirt & dressy top, dressy pant-outfit, nice slacks/khakis/dress shorts, button-down (tie and sport coat optional), no jeans

 

Enzo’s Pizza Food Sale – Tuesday April 4th!

Pizza anyone? Student Council will be sponsoring a food sale by Enzo’s Pizza to be delivered on Tuesday, April 4th. For $10, you will receive your choice of personal pan pizza, sub, or salad. Also included will be a bag of potato chips AND a chocolate chip cookie. Individual drinks are available to purchase for $1 extra. Also, you may substitute your chips for a side Caesar salad for $1 extra.  Completed orders with money will be picked up during lunch on Wednesday, March 29th!
