MS Spirit Week 2019!

Middle School Spirit Week is next week! We hope you will show your spirit by being creative with what is in your closet, not your wallet! Although dressing up is not mandatory, it is encouraged and fun too. Spirit Week is going to be amazing!

On Friday, January 25th, the last day of Spirit Week, we will be having our Annual Student vs. Faculty Basketball Game during the school day.  If your child would like to participate in the game, he or she can buy raffle tickets after school in the Student Council store until Wednesday, January 23rd.  The raffle tickets are 25 cents each and all proceeds will be donated to charity. If your child would just like to participate in the halftime or quarterly events, but not the game, they can buy raffle tickets on Thursday, January 24th after school at the Student Council store.  These tickets will be drawn during the game.

Also, next Friday 1/25 is the Middle School Night at the Cav Dome in Kirby Gym at 6pm!  Please join us to watch the DA basketball teams battle against Ravenscroft. The varsity girls team will play at 6:15pm and the varsity boys team will play at 7:45pm. Pizza and snacks will be on sale from the concession stand and during halftime of the boys game.

Here is a rundown of the Spirit Week dress up days:

After you’ve purchased your lunch considering donating your spare change to benefit Sole Hope

Sole Hope is an organization that provides medical support, education, and shoes to help the Ugandan people prevent and treat jiggers. Jiggers are a foot parasite that plagues children and the elderly. The jiggers can cause painful infections that prevent children from running, playing, and attending school. Sole Hope has a clinic that goes to rural parts of Uganda to provide education and medical relief to those affected. Sole Hope also provides shoes to the affected children to help prevent the jiggers from returning. The shoes are made by Ugandan craftsman from recycled denim scraps from blue jeans and the rubber from recycled car tires. Questions? Contact Ms. Punk. (molly.punk@da.org)

Halloween

DA MS Halloween 2017 from DA MS Student Council on Vimeo.

Halloween this year was a very fun and exciting time. We started off a few days before decorating many advisory doors. Halloween day was quite a blast. There were many creative and punny costumes this year. A funky schedule was added to allow for the numerous Halloween festivities we had planned for the afternoon. We had many costumes lined up for the parade and even more fun inside Taylor hall with the humorous and well done drama play, the creative movement piece, and Art’s slideshow of their many masterpieces. To wrap things up, the Student Council worked hard to make a Halloween rap as well as Mr. Ulku-Steiner, Mr. Hark, and Mr. Meredith performing their rap at Taylor Hall. There was also a sweet surprise at the last hour of school. It’s not like we would get stuffed with sugary treats at home nonetheless having a dessert food truck rodeo! All in all this Halloween was very fun and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year!

Watch the video above that Ms. Mack made containing many of the Halloween photos!
